"OM" Mantra of the Third Eye Chakra: How to Unblock Ajna Chakra


The Ajna chakra is the seat of wisdom, consciousness, and one’s soul. This is where we not only see what is going on around us, but we also understand the meanings behind almost everything! It also helps us establish a healthy and disciplined view of reality without missing seeing the bigger picture. 

Nourishing the Ajna chakra is very important as its gift includes the ultimate vision - seeing both the inner and outer worlds. Also known as “the third eye” chakra, it is believed to be located in the center of our forehead between our eyebrows, hence associated with our thinking skills.


What is mantra”? Accordingly, a mantra is a sacred utterance, a numinous sound, a syllable, word or phonemes, or a group of words in Sanskrit, Pali, and other languages believed by practitioners to have religious, magical, or spiritual

What is Om?

Also spelled Aum, it is the ultimate consciousness in universal vibration of awareness.

The A represents your most common conscious state, wakefulness as we go about our lives. 

U represents a restful state before we reach deep sleep when our subconscious mind is active. 

The M represents the deep state of sleep, where our unconscious thoughts are revealed but not yet consciously known. 

Aum seeks to break down the illusion of the physical world to bring us to a transcendental state where we can access the rarest form of present consciousness, the heightened sense of self, and the purest realization of peace and calm.

Did you know that a simple sound of this powerful word can also help us in unblocking our third eye chakra?

  1. Keep the eyes focussed between the eyebrows. The eyebrow center is the trigger point to activate the Ajna chakra.
  2. Chant the mantra “Om” slowly synchronize with breath and concentrate on this point alone. This is the Shambhavi mudra used to awaken Ajna Chakra.

It is said that when the third eye chakra is balanced and activated, we become wiser, mindful of the things around us and what we do, spiritually motivated about life.
